Health and Safety Inspections
What is a Health and Safety Inspection?
Most child care providers offer safe and healthy environments. Health and safety inspections and investigations are a normal part of child care in Idaho. Inspections are not intended to "catch" anyone doing something wrong. Inspections help ensure the safety of children and staff, support staff in following requirements by finding concerns, and promote continuous improvement.
Idaho began publishing the results of health and safety inspections October 2017. Inspections are published as they are conducted and maintained on this site for at least three years.

Incident Reports
What is a Substantiated Incident?
Occasionally, families and community members may report that a child care facility is not meeting requirements for safe and healthy child care. All child care incidents reported in Idaho are investigated. After an investigation, if it is determined by the relevant authorities that an incident occurred, it is considered “substantiated.” It is important to know that only substantiated incidents and allegations are published on this website. Incidents that are still under investigation will not be published until the investigation is concluded.

Supervision and Health and Safety Concerns
There were concerns regarding supervision and health and safety of children. During the investigation, children were found outside without proper supervision. Additionally, the program was out of compliance with safe sleep requirements as two infants were sleeping with blankets and pillows without direct supervision.
Resolution
At the time of a follow up investigation, the program was in compliance with supervision and added a safety knob to the patio door to prevent children from exiting unsupervised. Infants were also sleeping in playpens and met safe sleep requirements.
Supervision, Safe Sleep
There were concerns with supervision practices. At time of investigation, two children were playing in the back yard without provider present and with patio doors closed. There were also two infants sleeping in playpens in separate bedrooms with doors closed and blankets and pillows in the playpens.Additionally, a blackout cover was also used on one of the playpens.
Resolution
During the investigation, a staff member went to the backyard to provide supervision of children. Blackout cover, blankets, and pillows were removed from playpens and both infants were brought to the living room for direct supervision. The importance of proper supervision and safe sleep practices were discussed with the owner of this facility. At follow up investigation, all children were supervised by the owner of the facility and two additional staff, including several children that were playing in the backyard. Safety knob was installed on patio doors leading to the back yard to prevent children from exiting unsupervised. Proper safe sleep practices were in place and provider is now educating parents on safe sleep practices.
